Week 2 -– Testimony for Future Generations: Building a Legacy of Faith

Last week, we reflected on how God calls us to remember His faithfulness—and now we move into the why. In Joshua 4:6–7, we see that these stones weren’t only for the people who crossed the Jordan, but also for their children and their children’s children. God was establishing a testimony that would outlive them—a spiritual legacy.

Scripture Focus: Joshua 4:6–7, 21–24 (ESV)

“…that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ 7 then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord… So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”

21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters… until you passed over… 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

These verses speak powerfully about legacy. Our stories of God’s faithfulness aren’t meant to be hidden or forgotten—they are meant to be shared, passed on, and celebrated so that future generations can know the power and goodness of God. Not only in current time but know that He always has and will always be.

Every testimony becomes a stone that helps build someone else’s faith. Whether it’s through your words, your actions, or your worship, —your life is a testimony.

 Reflection:

  • What stories of God’s faithfulness do you want to pass on maybe to your children, grandchildren, family, friends?

I pray this week’s message blessed your heart and reminded you of God’s presence in every step. If it spoke to you, I’d love to hear from you—or invite you to share it with a friend who may need encouragement.
